Council Honors Students, Tribal Members

MANDERSON/OGLALA/THREE MILE CREEK – During two days of regular sessions and two special sessions, the OST Council honored both individual and groups of tribal members.

Dustin Randall, a bus driver at Crazy Horse School, completed his bus run and while returning to school stopped for a student alongside the road who had cut himself climbing into his house, Randall applied first aid and waited while the ambulance came, the student was life-flighted out and lived through the experience. Teton Saltes, while returning from Rapid City saw a burning house outside of Oglala, he raced inside and pulled an elder, Charles New Jr., out of the burning building; Teton graduated from the University of New Mexico, signed as an undrafted free agent with the NY Jets of the NFL and currently plays with the Michigan Panthers of the USFL. Both Saltes and Randall were honored with a song, a quilt, a tribal flag and an honorarium.

Last week in Manderson the council honored Lisa Looks Twice, DeShawneigh Iron Cloud, Sandra Palmier, Roberta Jumping Eagle, Stevi Hollow Horn Black Tail Deer, Karen White Butterfly, Brian Charging Cloud, Jess Heart and Stevi Fallis. Honorees were presented a quilt, a tribal flag and a $500 honorarium. Long time Pine Ridge HS volleyball coach Nellie Long was honored as well. Gloria Kitsopoulos, long time school administrator at American Horse School was honored too.

From Little Wound, students who helped with the Heart of All oral history project were honored including Mandie Amiotte, Talaiah Bear Killer, Tina Bear Nose, Sioux Dawn Bianas, Tashaya Boltz, Adriana Bradford, Helina Brings Plenty, Hanna Brunsch, Allison Clifford, Kansas Clifford, Gillian Cross, Terrance DeSersa, Tate Eagle Staff, Kobe Gay, Antonio Giago, Shelby Goggles, Emilio Gomez, Jada Good Crow, Lara Herman, BJ Hopkins, Jr., Wyatt Hunter,nElizabeth Iron Horn, Jaida Jacobs, Stephanie Janis, Faron LaBatte, Jaeilyn Little Dog, Avaline Little Elk, Zoe Long Soldier, Patricia Looks Twice, Lainey Martinez, Mary Kate Martinez, Benjamin Mills, Esperanza Montileaux, Savanah Montileaux, Kobe No Neck, Aaliyah Old Horse, Telyah Pourier, Tionna Pourier, Kimimila Pretty Bear, Ohiyesawin Ramirez, Hattie Red Owl, Eternity Red Star, Dawson Rooks, Tera Rouillard, Warren Shot, Kendra Slow Bear, Julia Swan, William Thunder Horse, Wambli Zaniya White Bull, Cheyenne Whiting, Trey Yellow Boy, Riley Yellow Cloud, Belva Young, Camden Young and Kaden Young.

Red Cloud girls basketball team won LNI this year and took fifth at State A were honored and included Stevi Fallis, Allison Richards, Sharissa Haas, Jordan Derby, Cheree Ferguson, Raina Ghost Bear, Jade Ecoffey, Michole Carlow, Ashlan Carlow-Blount, Essence Tobacco, Dottie Mesteth, Jewelia LeBeau,

Abigail Haas, Anya LaMont and Riannon Brewer with coaches Matt Rama, Amanda Carlow, Michele Carlow, Coty Janis and Carlie Janis.

Red Cloud School had singers travel to both the State A girls in Brookings and State A boys basketball tournament in Rapid City to sing the flag song, singers honored included Kimimila Rama, Gracie Banks, Sakowin Rama, Keegan Carlow, Harper McGhee, Juliana Hussman, Bear Haas Jr., Diyari Huggins, Alee Hernandez, Antoine Garnier, Tasunke Two Eagle, Wicahpi Giago, Skeluta Wi Giago, Gianni Weston and Mia Waters.

The Little Wound middle school boys won the Big Foot Conference over Batesland and were honored and included Daijon Ghost, Dylan Ferguson, Jeremiah Brave Heart, Jaden Red Owl, Aston Richards, Gary Runnels! Joseph Shangreaux, Isiah Heart, Louis McBride and Cadence Long Soldier and Dayton Eagle Bull, boxing champ.

Also, elders from Medicine Root were honored including Louise Big Boy, Connie Whirlwind Horse, Alvon Little White Man, along with Wilma Colhoff from Pine Ridge.
