Martin, SD – Beginning of the month of March at the Buche Ace Hardware store, they honored and gave a Certificate of Recognition for one of their employees, Wakan Movescamp. Movescamp has worked at this hardware store for over 6 years and counting.

Starting his job with the store, known as Ace Hardware, then, back in 2017, Wakan started out doing small engine repairs and worked on chainsaws, lawn mowers and other tools. As the years went by, he was able to learn more new things and could work anywhere in the store.

A couple of years ago, Buche was able to buy Ace Hardware so now the store is called Buche Ace Hardware store. The owner of the store has said “Since we purchased the Martin location a couple of years ago we have seen Wakan take on and grow into his job responsibilities.”

When the pandemic first hit, Movescamp was able to take training classes online to help him further expand his skill sets with work. And then when Buches took over the store, they were able to send him to Mitchell Tech to graduate and complete his training.

Currently right now, Movescamp goal with work is to be more consistent with steel, he wants to work more under steel and complete classes and trainings for that. The last class for steel is the Gold Level and Movescamp is determined to reach that.

Movescamp comes from Wanblee, South Dakota but has been residing in Martin, South Dakota with his family for over 9 years. “My family is my motivation to keep going, I think of my wife and my children, they are the reason I keep challenging myself at work and why I keep on working,” said Wakan.

“I take a lot of pride in my work ethic. My father has been working for over 35 years, growing up I would see him get ready and go to work every day has been my motivation for me every day as well,” said Movescamp.

Being able to have a good job with a good work crew that encourages you to keep going is very good. “I have had some of the younger generation come up to me and say that they look up to me and I am their role model makes me feel good,” said Movescamp. “I try my hardest every day as a young Lakota man to encourage the younger ones to keep going and to not quit,” said Wakan.
