PIERRE/HURON – When the snow settled Friday night, Indian Country had five boys basketball teams that had won their regional semi-final games and were moving on to So- Dak 16 state tournament play-in games; Pine Ridge squeaked by Red Cloud 47-44, Crazy Horse eased by Philip on the road 55-52, White River clobbered Jones County 73-44, Lower Brule decimated Herreid-Selby 74-42 and McLaughlin closed out Mobridge-Pollock 43-35.
If weather permitted, SoDak 16 games were scheduled for Tuesday, March 7, all at neutral sites: Pine Ridge plays Mt. Vernon Plankinton in Pierre at 6:30pm
CT, Crazy Horse plays De Smet in Huron at 5:30pm CT, White River has Howard at Stanley County high school in Ft. Pierre at 7:00pm, Lower Brule gets Irene-Wakonda at the Corn Palace in Mitchell at 6:00pm CT and McLaughlin is matched with St. Thomas More in Wall at 6:00pm MT. Winners of SoDak 16 games move on to the state tournament, March 16, 17 & 18, either the State B in Aberdeen or the State A in Sioux Falls.
Pine Ridge closed out the regular season 16-3 then beat St. Francis 72-28 and Red Cloud 47-44. The Thorpes went up 15-11 after one-quarter with Red Cloud up 25-24 at the half but Pine Ridge grabbed the lead after three 38-33 before closing the game out 47-44. Jaylin Rouillard led Pine Ridge with 13, Justin Eagle helped with 12 while Haedyn Haas topped Red Cloud with 13 points, Adriano Rama chipped in 11 while Monty Montileaux added 10 points. White River finished their regular season at 16-4, beat Oelrichs 123-28 to open Region 7B before knocking off Jones County 73-44 in the semifinals. Lower Brule finished 17-3 and earned the #1 seed in Class B, the Sioux downed Potter County 84-61 in the first round of 6B before taking out Herreid-Selby 74-42 in the semis. Crazy Horse closed out the regular season 15-4 then opened Region 7B with a 74-56 win over Kadoka Area before downing Philip 55-52. McLaughlin ended up 10-8 then beat North Central 61- 27 in the first round of Pollock 43-35 in 6A before downing Mobridge the semis.
