Prairie Edge Review

This last week, I attended the 2009 Festival of Books in Deadwood where many authors, poets, and entertainers came together to present their works and celebrate one another. It was a special time for everyone involved. Prairie Edge had a large display of books, mostly titles written by authors that were present at this year’s Festival. There is one book though that we took along simply because it is such a popular item and people are always happy to discover it on our shelves.

Maybe you have it already, and if you do, you know what a true gem it is: 365 Days of Walking the Red Road, The Native American Path to Leading a Spiritual Life Every Day, by Terri Jean. The book has a monthly Red Road spiritual lesson; inspiring quotations from Native Americans; the proper use of dream catchers and other symbols and crafts; and important dates in Native American history.

The author, Terry Jean founded the Red Roots Educational Project to enlighten Native Americans about their history and culture. She dedicates the book to her mother for teaching her how to write, and to her great-grandmother, Whitlatch, for all of her inspiration and encouragement.

This book provides thought provoking information for every day of the year. Simple, yet profound, wisdom – wisdom – wisdom…
